The sign on the red mark says, “No Passing.” I don’t think anyone would have to worry about that! This is SV AKA prepping to dock at Dandy Haven Marina. It was about this exact time that Avemar’s prop shaft fell out of the back of the transmission!I’m not sure how it happened but the prop shaft worked its way out of the coupling to the transmission. Thankfully Avemar’s rudder is fixed to the back of the keel and it stopped the prop and shaft from sliding into the water. That would have been a big problem! After locating a new locking key for the prop shaft the task of putting Avemar back together was mostly a whole body contortion exercise in the starboard cockpit locker. After a few hours… Avemar can move again!Avemar and SV AKA docked side-by-side at Dandy Haven Marina.Scott hanging out in the cockpit on Avemar. It was a successful week full of southbound downwind sailing down the Chesapeake Bay to Hampton, VA. Scott on SV AKA is a good guy and so it was really fun to have a buddy boat for the three legs from Annapolis. Avemar is heading out into the Atlantic for a solo sail further south today.Sailing Avemar is a reader-supported publication.
