I found a use for the spaghetti colander

I have all sorts of camera gear on the boat but not a single neutral-density filter, which is needed to photograph the sun at midday.

I spent the morning poking holes in aluminum foil and trying various techniques to take photos of the sun without looking up at the sun or into the camera’s viewfinder.

Thirty minutes before the solar eclipse started, I found a collapsible spaghetti colander with perfectly round holes and had an idea…

I hope you got to go outside to witness the solar eclipse! There won’t be another total solar eclipse viewable across the US until August 12, 2045.
