We know you'll enjoy it all no matter where you go. Wishing you good weather and a dafe trip to Block Island. Great biking there. Interesting how they had to move the lighthouse back from the eroding edge of the cliff.

Yes. We anchored in Port Washington after returning from Maine. We left Port Washington the next morning for Hell's Gate. We took a mooring at Richmond County Yacht Club n Great Kills Harbor. Left next morning to head south. We sailed north from Cape May to Block Island Salt Pond on way to Maine. We loved Maine! Crossed Ambrose Channel at night before AIS. A bit tense with ships going in both directions and fishing boats going all around too!

We may sail up to Maine. No real plans beyond Block Island and exploring that area. I have a wood stove now so we’ll have heat!

Bill, I assume the bilge pumps are on the critical systems too. 😃

We recognize where all of that is mounted. I used that space for files and boat docs. Still admire that original wood! I'd have loved to have those new electronics back then. We had the latest like doing email with a device that was held to a regular telephone as an acoustic coupler! I also used Pactor Ii on ham radio with winlink. Keep on improving and enjoying. We love to read your stories. We're currently in Spain after our Atlantic crossing (on a cruise ship!). Maybe see you on the Chesapeake this summer?

Amazing where tech has come in just 35 years.

We're sailing from Manatee Pocket to Block Island next week. Then we'll work our way back down into the Chesapeake, and we can meet up. I'll keep you in the loop and I'll be posting progress reports.

Hope you go south through Hell's Gate. A wonderful sight of Statue of Liberty at end. Safe trip north. See you on the Bay.

That is in the plan. When we see you, I'll tell you a funny story about Hell's Gate and my old boat. Did Avemar go through there?

Nicely done, sir!

I thought about getting a wifi module so we could use the VRM to monitor the systems but it seemed like overkill at the time. I mean, we live on the boat, how often are we going to need/use it?

As I sit here half a continent away waiting on a doctors appointment to let me know if I'm going to get surgery for my foot. Live and learn, I suppose.

Aside from the Lynx and WiFI/VRM module it looks like we have very similar setups.

I'm curious how you like the wind generator. We've discussed getting one but are worried that the noise would be too annoying.

I just read some of your posts that I missed. That foot! Wow. I'm sorry, man. I hope they get that fixed for you soon! You've been waiting for months now! It's good that your boat isn't in FL, like Avemar. We plan to escape at the end of May, so the boat insurance will remain after hurricane season begins. We must be in North Carolina or further north. Hopefully, we will have a good weather window and sail directly to New England and maybe our paths will cross after you return to the boat, and we'll both head south in the Fall.

Thanks. We missed the entire sailing season this year because of that foot. When we get back to the boat and get her into the water, we will probably head directly north to however far we get before heading south when the weather starts turning cooler.

We would love to cross paths either heading north or back south!

I wired Starlink to the DC 12-volt system, so it is always on. The Cerbo GX sends the data to the website at the bottom of the post and I can get that on my phone from anywhere. I'm like you and didn't think I'd check on it because I live on the boat most of the time, but it's surprising the "trips" that happen, and it is nice to be able to see the power status and the state of other alarms that hook into the network.

We thought about that and may end up doing the same at some point but at the moment, Starlink doesn't have a permanent home and we have to take it down when we sail, which is fine, if I'm sailing I'm probably not going online anyway but when we stop is when we'd use the VRM anyway. We really need to create a permanent home for the dish anyway.

I don't have a permanent home for the dish either. We're on a mooring, and it is currently mounted on the bow pulpit. (I sailed from West Palm to Stuart and forgot to remove it.) LOL. I do have the Starlink stand on the boat. I also have a rod holder where it could live temporarily while sailing. I will pay the extra $100 to use it while sailing on our trip north, but the dish will be in a temporary spot. The 12v DC upgrade was worth the cost and trouble. It uses almost no power now and connects much faster than when on 120AC through the inverter.

There is no noise with this one. It only contributes significantly when the wind is 17 mph + and is usually less than 10% of total power production. It is nice for cloudy and windy days. However, when sailing, it is pumping in the juice because the apparent wind is additive. This particular turbine is sweet. Silent, you don't have to worry about throttling it for wind speed because the blades feather as needed to keep the RPMs within bounds. If I was going to buy a wind turbine again, I'd get this model again for sure.

That's seems pretty nice!

At the moment, we have ~900W in solar feeding the battery but we expect we'll need ~1400 of solar to reach our goals (water maker and all electric cooking). Of course, this means we'll need to replace the old charge controllers or get new ones or both, blah, blah, blah..boat projects.

If we can't get enough solar or need something to cover any gaps for weather, we'll definitely take a closer look.

Thanks. I added more information since you commented. I re-read my post and forgot to mention what battery I bought, which was the original point of the post! :) It's likely there was Capt. & Diet involved. I blame them.
