I’ve photographed hatchet throwing, unicycle basketball, wheelchair basketball, every college and high school sport, sailing, curling, soapbox racing, and almost every pro sport.
I’ve never photographed racquetball, extreme ironing, or giant-pumpkin kayaking. And until yesterday, I had never photographed skateboarding.
After thinking about that—and spending a couple of hours looking through my photo archives—I still find it difficult to believe. I got my first skateboard for my ninth birthday back in the mid-1970s, followed shortly thereafter by a Pentax K1000.
The following images are from my first outing photographing skateboarding.
