My first encounter with these magnificent birds of prey was on my Great Loop solo voyage aboard the S/V Sea Marie. They got rather close to me, I guess being a 22ft sailboat didn't faze them as a threat but sure did provide a close up treat for me and Mickey my sailing cat. Thank you Henry. That osprey was in Cobb Island, MD and I took the photo last September. Today here in Stuart, FL, I learned that the Osprey that sits atop the sailboat masts in this marina is locally referred to as: George. It's unknown at the moment if George is a sole bird or if any osprey that lands here is called George.
George is a fitting name for the Osprey. I have noticed his cousins have made it this far north in northeast Ohio to call their home. I have seen a breeding pair just south of Akron on a kayak float a couple of years ago. Eagles are making a big comeback here as well. Very few birds can match the color and pattern display of an osprey wing. Again, thanks for sharing.
